Junoon is one of the most famous Pakistani Rock bands, which is based in two of the most important Pakistani cities, Lahore and Karachi. Junoon was initiated in 1990 by Salman Ahmad who was a doctor by profession. Apart from Salman Ahmad, other members of Junoon included Ali Azmat, Brian O Connell, Sheryar Ahmad, John Alec, Nusrat Hussain and Malcolm Goveas. Salman Ahmad is the lead guitarist and songwriter whereas Ali Azmat is the lead vocalist. Sheryar Ahmad is the band manager and John Alec is the producer and the bassist. Brian OConnell is a bassist, Nusrat Hussain and Malcolm Goveas manage keyboards and drums respectively.

Junoon created a history in Pakistani Music by launching their first album Junoon. After the release of Inquilaab, it seemed that the whole Pakistan was chanting songs of Junoon. The best thing about their songs was the use of Sufism. A list of their all time hits is given below: -

Kailash Kher

Kailash Kher is a leading singer in the genre of Sufi Music. He was born in Meerut in the year 1976. His father was a Pundit and he used to listen to his father singing folk songs throughout the day. He started his training of classical music when he was 12 years old. After striving in business for a year or so, Kailash thought of trying a hand at singing. His first song Rabba Ishq Na Hove from Andaz received a good response. But it was Allah Ke Bande from Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part 2, which made Kailash an overnight hit. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a great Pakistani singer and was born in 1948 in Faisalabad. He was called Shahenshah e Qawalli which means the emperor of Qawalli. He was the son of Ustad Fateh Ali Khan who was a man of many talents as he was a vocalist, instrumentalist and a distinguished musicologist. Nusrats family has been in Qawalli genre for more than 5 centuries. Nusrats father didnt want him to become a Qawwal, but this boy had some other plans. He forced his father to teach him. His training from his father remained incomplete as his father left this world in 1964. His training was then completed by his uncles Ustad Salamat Ali Khan and Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan. Such was his talent that in no time he made his presence felt in the world of music.

Rabbi Shergill

Gurpreet Shergill, popularly known as Rabbi Shergill was born in 1975. His father is a Sikh Priest and his mother is a Punjabi poet and also a college principal. He did his schooling from Guru Harkrishan Public school. He completed his graduation from Sri Guru Tegh BahadurKhalsa College and started for further studies at Fore School of Management. But his first love, music, persuaded him to drop his studies and start his quest for a life in music.

He started his career singing ad jingles for many brands. He had to work really hard for his debut album. Three companies backed out due to some reasons or the other and so Rabbi was made to wait for more than three years. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was born in the year 1974 in the city of Faisalabad to Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan. He was a singer, more specifically a singer of Qawalli. Apart from Qawalli, he also mastered ghazals. His family had been associated with Qawalli for more than 6 centuries. He was trained by his uncle and the famous maestro in Qawalli, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Rahat started his musical training at a very tender age. Roop Kumar Rathod

Roop Kumar Rathod was born to Pandit Chaturbhuj Rathod who himself was an eminent personality in classical music and had the credit of training the likes of Kalyanji Anandji and Manhar. As music was in his blood, Roop started learning tabla at a very tender age. With time his talent of tabla playing reached its zenith and he got the chance of performing with the greats like Anup Jalota and Pankaj Udhas. Shubha Mudgal

Shubha Mudgal is a famous Indian versatile singer who has mastered Hindustani Classical Music, Dadra, Thumri, Khayal and also the latest pop genre. She was born in 1959 in Allahabad to Skand and Jaya Gupta. Professionally her parents were teachers, but they had great interest in classical music as well as Kathak. Like her sister she started learning Kathak at a very small age. After some years she started learning classical music from Pandit Rama Shreya Jha in Allahabad.
