Chehre pe giri zulfein kah do to hataa doon

April 14th, 2010 by User | No Comments | Filed in lyrics

“suraj” the biggest musical blockbuster of the year 1966 was full of extremely popular songs.

I in advertently posted the same “Suraj” song- viz “itna hai tumse pyaar” twice in this blog. To make amends, I am replacing this song in this page by another song from the same movie.

This song is a”teasing song” where Rajendra Kumar indulges in what is called “eve teasing” in India. Some English language purists wonder if Indians also have a term called “adam” tease when it is a female teasing a male.

The eve teaser is also called roadside Romeo in Indian lingo. In movies, the roadside Romeo usually gets the girl in the end, but in the real life, “eve teasing” is viewed seriously and it is a punishable offence in Indian Penal picture, no less (under sections 294 and 509). In movies, we hear a lot about section 302 of IPC(aka dafa 302 taziraate Hind),under which many characters are seen getting prosecuted in the court, but I have yet to an eve teasing hero being hauled in the court under dafa 294 and 509 of taaziraate Hind. I hope some makers of art movie will someday make a realistic movie, in which the hero would be shown teasing the heroine singing a song , and followed by that, he would be booked for eve teasing and made to do the rounds of courts. ;) How is that for a story idea ?

This song somehow had not become as popular as some of the other songs from this movie. Looking in isolation, this song sung by Rafi is an outstanding song. It was picturised on Rajendra Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala. Hasrat Jaipuri was the lyricist and Shankar Jaikishan had composed the music.

Song-Chehre pe giri zulfein (Suraj)(1966) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

chehre pe giri zulfein kah do to hataa doon main
gustaakhi maaf, gustaakhi maaf
ik phool tere joode mein kah do to lagaa doon main
gustaakhi maaf, gustaakhi maaf

ye roop, haseen dhoop, bahut khoob hai lekin
ulfat ke binaa pheekaa chehraa teraa rangeen
ye roop, haseen dhoop, bahut khoob hai lekin
ulfat ke binaa pheekaa chehraa teraa rangeen
ik deep muhabbat kaa, kah do to jalaa doon main
gustaakhi maaf, gustaakhi maaf
chehre pe giri zulfein kah do to hataa doon main
gustaakhi maaf, gustaakhi maaf

ik aag, lagi hai, mere zakhm-e-jigar mein
ye kaisaa karishmaa hai teri shokh nazar mein
ik aag, lagi hai, mere zakhm-e-jigar mein
ye kaisaa karishmaa hai teri shokh nazar mein
jo baat ruki lab par, kah do to bataa doon main
gustaakhi maaf, gustaakhi maaf
chehre pe giri zulfein kah do to hataa doon main
gustaakhi maaf, gustaakhi maaf

sarkaar, huaa pyaar, khataa hamse huyi hai
ab dil mein tum hi tum ho, ye jaan bhi teri hai
sarkaar, huaa pyaar, khataa hamse huyi hai
ab dil mein tum hi tum ho, ye jaan bhi teri hai
ab cheer ke is dil ko kah do to dikhaa doon main
gustaakhi maaf, gustaakhi maaf
chehre pe giri zulfein kah do to hataa doon main
gustaakhi maaf, gustaakhi maaf
ik phool tere joode mein kah do to lagaa doon main
gustaakhi maaf, gustaakhi maaf

Aaj mausam bada beimaan hai

April 14th, 2010 by User | No Comments | Filed in lyrics

If news channels decide to work Bollywood style where every news would be presented in the form of a song, then which song would be sung for weather news ?

Simple. Look no further than the song “Aaj mausam bada beimaan hai.. aanewaala koyi toofan hai, aaj mausam.” Subsequently, the song also discussed “kali kali ghataayen” (black clouds). In fact, the picturisation of this song actually shows the sky and white clouds, making it a perfect song for the meteorological department.

This song from “Loafer” was picturised on Dharmendra and Mumtaz, though it is just Dharmendra who gets to sing here.Earlier, I had posted another song from this movie with reversed roles where only Mumtaz got to sing and Dharmendra was left high and dry. Unlike how Dharmendra was seen sulking in that other song, Mumtaz does not sulk here. Good girl ! As the villain Ajit would have appreciated her.

The two are seen walking in a place full of greenery, and I kept expecting throughout the song that they would start running around the trees at any moment. I kept waiting and waiting but they just would refuse to move any faster than gentle walking. And thus, my search for the archtypical Bollywood song, where the boy and girl are supposed to run around trees singing a song, remains unrealised. Seeing how many trees were there, it was such a golden opportunity for the two, but then our Indian actors are not known for making the most of their opportunities.

Towards the end of the song, the camera all of a sudden hurriedly starts showing topmost branch of a tall tree. Does it mean that the duo were creating another opportunity for themselves after the weather news was over ?

Song- Aaj mausam bada beimaan hai (Loafer ) (1973) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD- Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

hmm hmm hmm
ho aaj mausam badaa beimaan hai
badaa beimaan hai, aaj mausam
ho aaj mausam badaa beimaan hai
badaa beimaan hai, aaj mausam
aane waalaa koyi toofaan hai
koyi toofaan hai, aaj mausam
ho aaj mausam badaa beimaan hai
badaa beimaan hai, aaj mausam

kaali-kaali ghataa dar rahi hai
kaali-kaali ghataa dar rahi hai
thandi aahen hawaa bhar rahi hai
sabko kyaa-kyaa gumaan ho rahe hain
har kali ham pe shak kar rahi hai
phoolon kaa dil bhi kuchh badgumaan hai
aaj mausam
ho aaj mausam badaa beimaan hai
badaa beimaan hai, aaj mausam

ai mere yaar ai husn waale
ai mere yaar ai husn waale
dil kiyaa maine tere hawaale
teri marzi pe ab baat thahri
jeene de chaahe tu maar daale
tere haathon mein ab meri jaan hai
aaj mausam
ho aaj mausam badaa beimaan hai
badaa beimaan hai, aaj mausam
aane waalaa koyi toofaan hai
koyi toofaan hai, aaj mausam
hmmm

Dil jo na kah saka

April 14th, 2010 by User | No Comments | Filed in lyrics

I have posted many songs of Rafi in this blog, and in each song I have raved about his voice. In fact one cannot help but remark on his voice quality whatever the song. In every song, he appered to give his very best.

Is it possible to better the very best. Well, it appears so to me in this case. Just listen to this song “dil jo na kah saka” from “Bheegi raat”. What remarkable singing !

Also, what superb lyrics by Majrooh. And amazing music of Roshan. This song is quite something. If you are in the right mood, then you cannot have enough of this song.

This song is picturised on Pradeep Kumar in the movie.

The same song is also sung separately by Lata for Meena Kumari. The picturisation of this female version is done very sensuously. And I include the female version of this song too here, mainly for its picturisation quality.

This is one song where both male and female version are awesome, just awesome. Let us not compare the two and try to pull down one to prove the superiority of the other.

This song finished fifth in Binaca geetmala 1966 final.
Here are both versions of the song:

Rafi version

Lata version

Song- Dil jo na kah saka (Bheegi Raat) ( 1965) Singer-Rafi/Lata, Lyrics- Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD- Roshan

Lyrics
(Rafi version)
dil jo naa kah sakaa
wohi raaz-e-dil kahne ki raat aayi
dil jo naa kah sakaa
wohi raaz-e-dil kahne ki raat aayi
dil jo naa kah sakaa

naghma sa koyi jaag utha badan me
jhankar ki si tharthari hai tan me
jhankar ki si tharthari hai tan me
ho mubarak tumhe kisi ki larajti si baahon mein
rahne ki raat aayi
dil jo na kah saka

taubaa ye kis ne anjuman sajaa ke
tukde kiye hain guncha-e-wafaa ke
tukde kiye hain guncha-e-wafaa ke
ho uchhaalo gulon ke tukde
ke rangeen fizaaon mein rahne ki raat aayi
dil jo naa kah sakaa

chaliye mubaarak jashn dosti kaa
daaman to thaamaa aap ne kisi kaa
daaman to thaamaa aap ne kisi kaa
ho hamen to khushi yahi hai
tumhen bhi kisi ko apnaa kahne ki raat aayi
dil jo naa kah sakaa

saagar uthaao dil kaa kis ko gham hai
aaj dil ki qeemat jaam se bhi kam hai
aaj dil ki qeemat jaam se bhi kam hai
ho piyo chaahe khoon-e-dil ho
ke peete pilaate hi rahne ki raat aayi
dil jo naa kah sakaa

wohi raaje dil kahne ki raat aayi
dil jo na kah saka

(Lata version)

hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm
dil jo naa kah sakaa
wohi raaz-e-dil kahne ki raat aayi
dil jo naa kah sakaa
wohi raaz-e-dil kahne ki raat aayi
dil jo naa kah sakaa

naghma sa koyi jaag uthaa badan me
jhankar ki si tharthari hai tan me
jhankar ki si tharthari hai tan me
ho pyaar ki inhi dhadakti
dhadakti fizaaon me
rahne ki raat aayi
dil jo na kah saka
wohi raaz-e-dil kahne ki raat aayi

ab tak dabee thi ek mauj-e-armaan
lab tak jo aayi ban gayee hai toofaan
lab tak jo aayi ban gayee hai toofaan
ho baat pyaar ki bahakti
bahakti nigaahon se kahne ki raat aayi
dil jo na kah saka
wohi raaz-e-dil kahne ki raat aayi

guzren na ye shab khol doon ye julfen
tumko chupaaloon moond ke ye palkein
tumko chupaaloon moond ke ye palkein
ho bekaraar si larajti
larajti si chaaon mein
rahne ki raat aayi
dil jo na kah saka
wohi raaz-e-dil kahne ki raat aayi

Hum matwaale naujawan

April 14th, 2010 by User | No Comments | Filed in lyrics

I have read a lot about this song called “Hum matwaale naujawaan”. I was not much aware of this song. In fact, there is another song with similar lyrics sung by Rafi and Mukesh from a 1961 movie which itself is called “Hum matwaale naujawan”. But this song “hum matwaale naujawaan” is from an earlier movie called “Shararat” and is sung by Kishore Kumar.

Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and Shankar Jaikishan provide the music. Kishore Kumar is the singer as well as actor of this song. It is a nice inspirational song sung with characteristic elan and acted with his usual exuberance by Kishore Kumar. As was his wont, Kishore Kumar is seen dancing on the road while singing this song along with many other naujawaans.

I had herad about this song, as I mentioned, but it is only now that I listened to this song ( and watched the video too) for the first time. I was late in discoveering this song only by 50 years. Not bad by my standards. ;)

Song- Hum matwaale naujawan (Shararat 1959 ) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

ham matwaale naujawaan, manzilon ke ujaale
log karen badnaami, kaise ye duniyaa waale
ham matwaale naujawaan, manzilon ke ujaale
log karen badnaami, kaise ye duniyaa waale
karen bhalaayi ham, bure banen har dam
is jahaan ki, reet niraali
pyaar ko samjhen, haay re haay sitam
ham matwaale naujawaan…

ham dhool mein lipte sitaare, ham zarre nahin hain angaare
naadaan hai jahaan, samjhega kahaan, ham naujawaan ke ishaare
jab jab jhoom ke niklen ham, jaan ke pad jaayen laale
log karen badnaami, kaise ye duniyaa waale
ham matwaale naujawaan …

ham rote dilon ko hansaa den, dukh dard ki aag bujhaa den
bechain nazar, betaab jigar, ham sabko gale se lagaa len
ham manmauji shahzaade, dukhiyon ke rakhwaale
log karen badnaami, kaise ye duniyaa waale
ham matwaale naujawaan

aadat ke bade mastaane
aur pyaar ke hum hain deewane
badhte hi chalen peeche na haten
aazadi ke ham parwaane
duniya badalne aaye hum toofaanon ke paale
log karen badnaami kaise ye duniyaa waale
karen bhalaayi ham, bure bane har dam
is jahaan ki, reet niraali,
pyaar ko samjhen, haay re haay sitam
ham matwaale naujawaan, manzilon ke ujaale
log karen badnaami, kaise ye duniyaa waale

Chehra kya dekhte ho dilme utar ke dekho na

April 14th, 2010 by User | No Comments | Filed in lyrics

Most of the songs in this blog are from 1970s and earlier. It does not mean that I do not like songs from 1980s and later. It is just that I lost track of Bollywood music from 1980 onwards. Also, trends like blanant plagiarism, lyrics losing their importance, creation of songs in bad taste, demise of many legends from the scene, etc meant that the music of later decades does not appeal to me as much as the music of earlier decades.

Still, there are newer songs that catch my attention and I begin liking them.

Take the song “chehra kya dkhte ho, dil me utarke dekho na”. This song has proper lyrics, and proper singers, and that makes this song appealing to me.

Kumar Sanu, the Kishore Kumar clone, sings this song wonderfully. Asha Bhonsle, from the old guard, is also there in this song. Nadeem-Shrawan were around in Bollywood from 1970s where they composed music of C grade Hindi movies and for regional movies for nearly two decades. They got their big break in “Saajan” and “Aashiqui” in 1989 and they did not look back since.

This particular song “chehra kya dekhte ho” is a nice hummable song from a movie called “Salaami”.

As for the actors, they were unknown kids and they remain just as unknown even today, and deservingly so. Just putting a few freshers in the movie, filling up the movie with a few hummable songs, and making a love story, and hoping that the film would succeed- it was a popular way of making movies in Bollywood in 1990s. This formula had become popular because of the success of “Aashiqui”.

The clones of “Aashiqui” such as this one, fell flat at the box office. Today, this song is perhaps the only thing that still survives from the bedris of this disaster.

The lyricist, Madan Pal, on the evidence of this song, must have been good. I have no idea what happened to him. May be the failure of movies of this genre took its toll on him as well.

PS- It turns out that the actors are Ayub Khan and Latika Sharma. Ayub Khan is the son of Nasir Khan, the well known hero of Bollywood movies in 1940s to 1960s. In fact, Nasir Khan is the brother of Dilip Kumar. That way, Ayub Khan is the nephew of Dilip Kumar !

Song- Chehra kya dekhte ho (Salaami 1993) Singers-Kumar Sanu, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Madan Pal, MD- Nadeem Shrawan

Lyrics

chehraa kyaa dekhte ho dil mein utar ke dekho na
dil mein utar ke dekho na
chehraa kyaa dekhte ho dil mein utar ke dekho na
dil mein utar ke dekho na
mausam pal mein badal jaayegaa patthar dil bhi pighal jaayegaa
meri mohabbat mein hai kitnaa asar dekho na
kitnaa asar dekho na
chehraa kyaa dekhte ho dil mein utar ke dekho na
dil mein utar ke dekho na
mausam pal mein badal jaayegaa patthar dil bhi pighal jaayegaa
meri mohabbat mein hai kitnaa asar dekho na
kitnaa asar dekho na

thode kareeb aao aise na itaraao
mujhse sanam door baithe ho kyaa
thode kareeb aao aise na itaraao
mujhse sanam door baithe ho kyaa
bechain kar doongaa itnaa tumhen aake lipat jaaogii dilrubaa
aise kyaa sochti ho aake idhar dekho naa
aake idhar dekho naa
chehraa kyaa dekhte ho dil mein utar ke dekho na
dil mein utar ke dekho na

main to tumhaari hoon tumpe dil hoon
phir kisliye hain ye betaabiyaan
main to tumhaari hoon tumpe dil hoon
phir kisliye hain ye betaabiyaan
aake gale se lagaa lo mujhe ab dooriyaan na rahen darmiyaan
kisne tumhen rokaa hai shaam-o-sahar dekho na
shaam-o-sahar dekho na
chehraa kyaa dekhte ho dil mein utar ke dekho na
dil mein utar ke dekho na

O raat ke musaafir

April 14th, 2010 by User | No Comments | Filed in lyrics

I have watched the movie “Miss Mary” and I loved the movie. In fact, I liked its songs as well. The situation under which ths song is sung is quite a romantic situation. Gemini Ganeshan and Meena Kumari are posing as a married couple for the sake of their job,and their employer,Raybahadur feels that they are not spending enough time together as befits a married couple, so locks them up in their bedroom.

And as happens in Bollywood, such situations are ideal occasions for singing of romantic songs in a garden. In a garden, did I say? Yes, I did. Apparently, the Raybahadur had forgotten to lock the rear door leading to the garden.

Well, Gemini Ganeshan sings the song in the garden, and two paragraphs later, finds that Meena Kumari too joins in the singing.

The song is quite beautiful, an ideal “Chaayageet” song by my difinition. It is so nice to see Meena Kumari playing a non tragic role. And Gemini Ganeshan (father of Rekha) is quite cute too.

This song was very popular during its time. In fact, this song finished 7th in Binaca geetmala finals of 1957.

Song-O raat ke musaafir (Miss Mary) (1957) Singers-Rafi, Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Hemant Kumar

Lyrics

o raat ke musaafir chandaa zaraa bataa de
meraa qusoor kyaa hai, tuu faislaa sunaa de
o raat ke musaafir chandaa zaraa bataa de
meraa qusoor kyaa hai, tuu faislaa sunaa de

hai bhool koyi dil kii aankhon kii yaa khataa hai
kuchh bhii nahin to mujhse phir kyun koyi khafaa hai
hai bhool koyi dil kii aankhon kii yaa khataa hai
kuchh bhii nahii.n to mujhse phir kyun koii khafaa hai
phir kyo.n koii khafaa hai
ma.nzuur hai vo mujhako jo kuchh bhii tuu sazaa de
meraa qusoor kyaa hai tuu faislaa sunaa de
o raat ke musaafir chandaa zaraa bataa de
meraa qusoor kyaa hai, tuu faislaa sunaa de

dil pe kisii ko apne qaaboo nahin rahaa hai
ye raaz mere dil se aankhon ne hii kahaa hai
dil pe kisii ko apne qaaboo nahin rahaa hai
ye raaz mere dil se aankhon ne hi kahaa hai
aankhon ne hi kahaa hai
aankhon ne jo hai dekhaa dil kis tarah bhulaa de
meraa qusoor kyaa hai tuu faislaa sunaa de

o chaand aasmaan ke, dam bhar zameen pe aajaa
bhuulaa huaa hai raahii, tuu raastaa dikhaa jaa
tuu raastaa dikhaa jaa

April 14th, 2010 by User | No Comments | Filed in lyrics

From the name, the movie “Raajhath” appears a historical/ mythological fare. The movie had Pradeep Kumar and Madhubala in lead roles.

“Ye waada karo chaand ke saamne” is a lovely song sung by Mukesh and Lata and picturised on Pradeep Kumar and Madhubala.

Pradeep Kumar looks royal, and Madhubala looks so pretty. Picturisation is lovely to watch, and the song is soothing to the ears.

Song-Ye waada karo chaand ke saamne (Rajhath) (1956) Singers-Lata, Mukesh, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

ye chandaa ye taare to chhup jaayenge
magar meri nazron se chhupnaa na tum
ye chandaa ye taare to chhup jaayenge
magar meri nazron se chhupnaa na tum
ho badal jaaye duniyaa na badlenge ham
badal jaaye duniyaa na badlenge ham
basaaya hai jab apne dil me tumhe
basaaya hai jab apne dil me tumhe
nibhaanaa hi hogaa is iqraar ko
ye waadaa karo chaand ke saamne
bhulaa to na dogi mere pyaar ko
ye waadaa karo chaand ke saamne …

bahaaron ke saaye mein aa jhoom len
bhulaa den zamaane ke gham aaj to
bahaaron ke saaye mein aa jhoom len
bhulaa den zamaane ke gham aaj to
ho zamaane ke gham se hamen kaam kyaa
zamaane ke gham se hamen kaam kyaa
hamen tum mile aur kyaa chaahiye
hamen tum mile aur kyaa chaahiye
ke ham chhod baithe hain sansaar ko
ye waadaa karo chaand ke saamne
bhulaa to na dogi mere pyaar ko
mere haath mein haath de do zaraa
sahaaraa milegaa mere pyaar ko
ye waadaa karo chaand ke saamne…

Na jaao sainya chhuda ke bainyaa

April 14th, 2010 by User | No Comments | Filed in lyrics

Meena Kumari is typecast in many people’s mind as a tragedy queen, but there were days when she used to play happy bubbly roles. For instance, I have watched her in “Miss Mary” and how cute and pretty she looks in that movie playing a normal female possessing a sense of humour. How dearly I would love to see her in similar roles.

I have no idea what role she played in “Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam”. The lyrics of this song though indicate a tragic role. How I would love to be proved otherwise. This song is an absolute classic.

This song is ofcourse known for the voice of Geeta Dutt. and as I have repeated myself a few times already, she had a remarkable voice for songs like this.

Song-Naa jaao saiyaan chudaa ke biyaan ( Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam) (1962) Singer-Geeta Dutt,Lyrics- Shakeel Badayuni, MD- Hemant Kumar

Lyrics

na jaao sainyaa chhudaa ke bainyaa
qasam tumhaari main ro padoongi, ro padoongi
machal rahaa hai suhaag meraa
jo tum na hoge to, kyaa karoongi, kyaa karoongi
na jaao sainyaa chhudaa ke bainyaa
qasam tumhaari main ro padoongi, ro padoongi

ye bikhri zulfen ye khiltaa kajraa
ye mahki chunri ye man ki madiraa
ye bikhri zulfen ye khiltaa kajraa
ye mahki chunri ye man ki madiraa
ye sab tumhaare liye hai preetam
main aaj tum ko na jaane doongi, jaane na doongi
na jaao sainyaa chhudaa ke bainyaa
qasam tumhaari main ro padoongi, ro padoongi

main tumhri daasi janam ki pyaasi
tumhin ho meraa singaar preetam
main tumhri daasi janam ki pyaasi
tumhin ho meraa singaar preetam
tumhaari raste ki dhool le kar
main maang apni sadaa bharoongi, sadaa bharoongi
na jaao sainyaa chhudaa ke bainyaa
qasam tumhaari main ro padoongi, ro padoongi

jo mujh se ankhiyaan churaa rahe ho
to meri itni araj bhi sun lo
jo mujh se ankhiyaan churaa rahe ho
to meri itni araj bhi sun lo
piyaa meri ye araj bhi sun lo
tumhaari charnon mein aa gayi hoon

Zara nazron se kahdo jee nishaana chook na jaaye

April 14th, 2010 by User | No Comments | Filed in lyrics

There are many songs in which hero teases the lady in Bollywood movies. The degree of teasing depends on the hero as well as on the singer. With heroes like Dharmendra, Shammi Kapoor singing in the voices of Kishore Kumar or Rafi, you can expect teasing of a vigorous nature, where the hero would shake up everything up in sight.

But there could be much gentler forms of teasing as well. For instance look at this song sung by Hemant Kumar and picturised on Vishwajeet and Waheeda Rahman.

Granted that Vishwajeet is not the allowed the scope of a Shammi Kapoor in this song, but the picturisation is cute in its own way. And for those who like gentle, unhurried, serene kind of music and picturisation, this song by Hemant Kumar is right up there among the best. This song is a Hemant Kumar classic, that one can listen to any number of times.

Song-Zara nazron se kahdo jee (Bees Saal Baad) ( 1962) Singer-Hemant Kumar, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni,MD-Hemant Kumar

Lyrics

zaraa nazron se kah do jee
nishaanaa chook na jaaye
zaraa nazron se kah do jee
nishaanaa chook na jaaye
zaraa nazron se kah do jee
mazaa jab hai tumhaari har adaa
qaatil hi kahlaaye
zaraa nazron se kah do jee
nishaanaa chook na jaaye
zaraa nazron se kah do jee…

qaatil tumhe pukaaroon ke jaan-e-wafaa kahoon
hairat mein pad gayaa hoon ke main tum ko kyaa kahoon
zamaanaa hai tumhaaraa
zamaanaa hai tumhaaraa chaahe jiski zindagi le lo
agar meraa kahaa maano to aise khel na khelo

haay, kitni maasoom lag rahi ho tum
tumko zaalim kahe wo jhoothaa hai
ye bholaapan tumhaaraa
ye bholaapan tumhaaraa ye sharaarat aur ye shokhi
zaroorat kyaa tumhen talwaar ki teeron ki khanjar ki
ye bholaapan tumhaaraa ye sharaarat aur ye shokhi
zaroorat kyaa tumhen talwaar ki teeron ki khanjar ki
nazar bhar ke jise tum dekh lo wo khud hi mar jaaye
zaraa nazron se kah do jee
nishaanaa chook na jaaye
zaraa nazron se kah do jee…

ham pe kyun is qadar bigadti ho
chhedne waale tumko aur bhi hain
zaraa nazron se kah do jee
nishaanaa chook na jaaye
zaraa nazron se kahdo jee
mazaa jab hai tumhaari har adaa qaatil hi kahlaaye
zaraa nazron se kah do jee
nishaanaa chook na jaaye
zaraa nazron se kah do jee…

Jhoomta mausam mast maheena

April 14th, 2010 by User | No Comments | Filed in lyrics

During the peak of his career, Shammi Kapoor songs were sung by Rafi and picturised on Kashmir, Shimla etc.

But that was in 1960s. Shammi Kapoor was not quite the same Yahoo! actor in 1950s. The one movie that changed the course of Shammi Kapoor’s career and gave him his lasting image was “Ujaala” (1959). It was in this movie that Shammi Kapoor was first seen in a boisterous role, singing and dancing with gay abandon. And in this movie, he was partnered by Mala Sinha.

The songs picturised on Shammi Kapoor in this movie were sung by Manna Dey. And this song “Jhoomta Mausam mast maheena” must be the one that paved the way for all those Rafi-Shammi Kapoor songs in 1960s.

Just listen to the song and watch the video. The song is superb, and the picturisation is nice. By watching this song, one can clearly see the indications of things to come in future Shammi Kapoor movies.

Song-Jhoomta mausam mast haseena (Ujaala) ( 1959) Singers-Manna Dey, Lata, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

jhoomtaa mausam mast maheenaa
chaand si gori ek haseenaa
aankh mein kaajal munh pe paseenaa
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gayi
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gayi

koyi rangeelaa sapnon mein aa ke
ek nazar se apnaa banaa ke
pyaar kaa jaadu ham pe chalaa ke
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gaya
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gaya

Thandi sadak neem tale teer-e-nazar khoob chale
o tum bhi udhar zakhmi huye
ham bhi idhar zakhmi huye
haay laal chunariyaa chaal niraali
sar pe jhoomar kaan mein baali
haath mein choodiyaan motiyon waali
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gayi
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gayi
koyi rangeelaa sapnon mein aa ke
ek nazar se apnaa banaa ke
pyaar kaa jaadu ham pe chalaa ke
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gaya
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gaya

tum bhi yahaan ham bhi yahaan
aisaa milan hogaa kahaan
o teri qasam jaan-e-jahaan
dil hai wahin tu hai jahaan
o dil kaa maalik ik matwaalaa
is jahaan mein sabse niraalaa
pyaar kaa sooraj din kaa ujaalaa
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gaya
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gaya
jhoomtaa mausam mast maheenaa
chaand si gori ek haseenaa
aankh mein kaajal munh pe paseenaa
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gayi
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gayi

donon taraf aag lagi
aisi lagi bujh na saki
o tum bhi jale main bhi jali
khil to gayi dil ki kali
ya allah
mukhdaa teraa gul ki kahaani
zulfen teri shaam suhaani
roop ki malakaa pyaar ki raani
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gayi
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gayi
koyi rangeelaa sapnon mein aa ke
ek nazar se apnaa banaa ke
pyaar kaa jaadu ham pe chalaa ke
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gaya
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gaya
he jhoomtaa mausam mast maheenaa
chaand si gori ek haseenaa
aankh mein kaajal munh pe paseenaa
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gayi
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gayi
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gaya
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gayi
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gaya
yaa allaah yaa allaah dil le gayi
