Today 9 April is Sankashti Chaturthi, or Ganesh Sankatahara Chaturti (dedicated to Hindu God Ganesh ). Ganesha devotees observe Sankashta Chaturti day from sunrise till the sighting of the moon. The day falls on the fourth day during the waning phase of moon or Krishna Paksha in a Hindu lunar month.

Fasting on Sankashti day is believed help in attaining peace, prosperity and knowledge.

Neelkanth Linga is a very rare form of Shivling found in the Narmada River. Neelakantha is pure white in color and This linga symbolically represents Shiva who drank the poison Halahala that appeared from Samdura Manthan or Churning of ocean. Shiva got the name Neelkanth or the one with blue throat after this incident.Naturally occurring Neelakanth Linga are found in the Narmada River.

Omkareshwar is a Hindu temple dedicated to God Shiva. It is one of the 12 revered Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. It is on an island called Mandhata or Shivapuri in the Narmada river; the shape of the island is said to be like the Hindu ? symbol. There are two temples here, one to Omkareshwar (whose name means “Lord of Omkaara or the Lord of the Om Sound”) and one to Amareshwar (whose name means “Immortal lord” or “lord of the Immortals or Devas”). But as per the sloka on dwadash jyotirligam, Mamleshwar is the jyotirling, which is on other side of Narmada river.

नान्या स्पृहा रघुपते हृदयेऽस्मदीये
सत्यं वदामि च भवानखिलान्तरात्मा ।
भक्तिं प्रयच्छ रघुपुङ्गव निर्भरां मे
कामादिदोषरहितं कुरु मानसं च ॥ २ ॥

अतुलितबलधामं हेमशैलाभदेहं
दनुजवनकृशानुं ज्ञानिनामग्रगण्यम् ।
सकलगुणनिधानं वानराणामधीशं
रघुपतिप्रियभक्तं वातजातं नमामि ॥ ३ ॥

यह रामचरितमानस् के पंचम काण्ड सुन्दर काण्ड के प्रारम्भिक श्लोक हैं…सुन्दर काण्ड को रामचरितमानस् का ह्रुदय भी कहा जाता है,,,,क्योंकि इसमें श्री हनुमान जी की महिमा का वर्णन है।…मात्र सुन्दर काण्ड के पठन से सम्पूर्ण रामचरितमानस् के पढने के समान पुण्य प्राप्त होता है।

Sarvapitri Amavasya is one of the major occasion or day for the Hindu religion in India. During that time they do religious acts for the peace of souls of their ancestors. They perform that work each of the year and in this year of 2011 Sarvapitri Amavasya is observe today , on 27th of September.

Sarvapitri Amavasya is a major occasion of the Pitru Paksha in the Hindu religion in the country of India. It is a most important day to give a respect for the peace of the ancestors. This is the day which is falls in the lunar month of Hindu calendar that is Bhadrapad. According to English this falls during the time of September/ October month.

Sarvapitri Amavasya is a time to reduce the bad effects of the previous life of our ancestors. It is a time not to only remember our ancestors but also worship the supreme power of the universe with religious acts.

This is a major time to remember the ancestors of a family. People do all the acts of Shradh Paksha. This festival or occasion started with the day of Poornima (full moon day) and ended with the day of Sarvapitri Amavasya. This ‘Karma of Shradh’ is most famous in northern and eastern parts of the country of India. During that time people observe fasts. And prepare delicious meals for Brahmins. They give some religious commodities or money to poor or needy people.

Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon day (pournima) of the Hindu lunar month of Chaitra. A special feature of Hanuman Jayanti is that according to some religious almanacs (panchangs) the birthday of Lord Hanuman falls on the fourteenth day (chaturdashi) in the dark fortnight of the month of Ashvin while according to others it falls on the full moon day in the bright fortnight of Chaitra. On this day, in a Hanuman temple spiritual discourses are started at dawn. Hanuman was born at sunrise.Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated to commemorate the birth of god Hanuman.

Hanuman Jayanti is an important festival of Hindus. Hanuman is the symbol of strength and energy. Hanuman is said to be able to assume any form at will, wield rocks, move mountains, dart through the air, seize the clouds and rival Garuda in swiftness of flight. He is worshipped in folk tradition as a deity with magical powers and the ability to conquer evil spirits.

- यदि आपने कोई नशा जैसे शराब, सिगरेट, ड्रग्स इत्यादि ले रखा है तो गुरुद्वारे में प्रवेश कतई ना करें। यह गुरुग्रंथ साहिब के प्रति असम्मान दिखाता है।

- गुरुद्वारे में अपने साथ कोई हथियार ना ले जाए।

- गुरुद्वारे में प्रवेश से पूर्व सबसे पहले अपने जूते-चप्पल इत्यादि बाहर ही निकाल दें, साथ ही मौजे भी। कुछ लोग मौजे सहित ही गुरुद्वारे में प्रवेश कर जाते हैं। उससे उनके मौजे की बदबू से गुरुद्वारे का वातावरण प्रदुषित होता है, अत: मौजे भी बाहर ही निकाल देना चाहिए। इससे गुरुद्वारे की पवित्रता और सफाई बनी रहेगी।

- जूते उतारने के पश्चात अपने हाथ-पैर अच्छे से धो लें। ताकि आपके हाथ-पैर पूर्णरूप से साफ और स्वच्छ हो जाए।

- अपने सिर को कपड़े से ढंक लें। यह गुरुग्रंथ साहिब के प्रति सम्मान व्यक्त करता है। सिर पर कपड़ा ढंकने के कुछ और भी फायदे हैं जैसे सिर के मध्य भाग स्थित दशम द्वार को ढंकने से हमारा मन अंयत्र नहीं भटकता। क्योंकि दशम द्वार का संबंध हमारे मन से होता है।

- गुरुद्वारे में किसी भी परिस्थिति में अपने पैर गुरुग्रंथ साहिब की ओर करके ना बैठे। यह असम्मान की भावना व्यक्त करता है।

- चूंकि गुरुद्वारे के फर्श पर श्रद्धालु मत्था टेंकते हैं अत: फर्श को बिल्कुल गंदा ना करें क्योंकि ताकि अन्य श्रद्धालुओं के सिरों पर गंदगी ना लगे।

- गुरुग्रंथ साहिब और गुरुद्वारे की परिक्रमा घड़ी की सुई जिस दिशा में घुमती है उसी के अनुसार करें।

- गुरुद्वारे में कहीं भी बैठे अपना मुख ग्रंथ साहिब की ओर रखें।

- सभी गुरुद्वारों में लंगर चलाए जाते हैं जहां सभी को समान रूप से प्रसाद दिया जाता है। जो कि जातिभेद और ऊंच-नीच जैसी भावनाओं को मिटाता है। अत: वहां समान रूप से भोजन प्राप्त करें।
